Questions people ask.
Does BlindHush read my prompts?
No. Your computer reads them. Our server receives only encrypted numbers and returns encrypted scores that only your computer can open.
Does it slow down my AI assistant?
A chat message adds about a third of a second on a laptop CPU. Text already checked earlier in the conversation is not checked again.
Will the AI model still give useful answers?
Yes. Personal values become placeholders such as [PERSON_1], so the model can still reason about the request. The real values are put back in the answer on your computer.
Which apps does it work with?
Claude Code (CLI and the Code tab in Claude Desktop) and Codex (CLI and desktop, with an OpenAI API key) through a local proxy, and chat sites in the browser through the extension. The Claude Desktop chat window cannot be routed through a proxy, so use the browser extension there.
Does it work on Windows?
Yes, through WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux), which the installer uses because the encryption library has no native Windows build. Windows apps reach it on localhost as usual.
Can I try it for free?
Yes. Sign in with Google, on the website or when setup asks for a key, and a new account gets 100 free units with no payment. They do not expire.
What does Google sign-in tell BlindHush?
Only that you are the same Google account as last time. We ask Google for the openid scope alone, so we receive an account id and never your name, email or photo, and we store that id only as a keyed hash. Signing in is optional: you can also buy with ECPay and use the API key alone.
Do I need an account?
No. Google sign-in is optional. Without it, you buy units with ECPay and receive an API key and a recovery code, and that is all. We never ask for your name or email.
What happens if I lose my API key?
Use your recovery code on the account page to get a new key; your balance stays. If you lose both, the balance is lost, because there is no account to reset.
Which currency do I pay in?
Prices are in US dollars. ECPay, our payment provider, charges in New Taiwan dollars (NT$), so at checkout the price is converted at a stated rate and the NT$ amount is shown before you pay. Your card issuer may add its own foreign-currency fee.
I paid but did not get a key.
Open the page ECPay returned you to, in the same browser tab you paid from: the key is claimed there, once. If you closed it, the claim cannot be repeated from another browser, because we do not know who you are. Keep your ECPay receipt, and do not pay again.
What does one unit buy?
One unit checks up to about 1,000 words in one request. A chat message is usually one unit; a 50,000-token agent step is about thirteen.
Does my API key for Anthropic or OpenAI go to BlindHush?
No. Requests to the AI model go from your computer straight to Anthropic or OpenAI with your own key. BlindHush only scores encrypted data.
What does BlindHush miss?
Masking is not perfect. Structured values (emails, phones, cards, orders, dates) are close to complete; short first names and indirect health statements are harder. We publish measured accuracy on the home page.
